AAVSO ALERT NOTICES

URGENT SPECIAL REQUEST

David Florkowski, University of Florida, has put a special request through John Bortle to the AAVSO observers, to observe 0814+73 Z Cam and 0214-03 omi Cet (Mira), from now till August 20 to guide him with his forthcoming observations at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Virginia.  Please, if you can, keep a very close eye on these variables.

To inform him of the activitiy of Z Cam and Mira prior to his observations please send your early August observations of them to HQ to reach us no later than August 13. Please continue to observe them till August 20. Should you observe any outburst of Z Cam and/or unusual activity of Mira between August 13-19 (the time when these variables will be monitored by radio telescopes) please call me at HQ - 617-354-0484 weekdays or at home - 617-xxx-xxxx evenings and weekends. Your data are extremely vital and your efforts and cooperation are very much appreciated!

SPECIAL REQUEST TO OBSERVERS WITH LARGE SCOPES

Wise Observatory astronomers in Israel are very much interested in our observations of TX Cam, particularly around its minimum. 0452+56 TX Cam is a very red, faint long period variable with a period of 557 days and a magnitude range of 10.5-<15.0 (AAVSO data). It might have unusual activity around minimum. It is new in our observing program. Exact date of its minimum is questionable, however, it is suspected to be around late October or November. We have a standing request to observe it from now (as it is faing) till early 1975.

Would those of you with large telescopes (10" and up) and good skies please include this long period variable in your observing program?

The variable has a preliminary 'e' chart obtaineable from Clint Ford - Chairman of the Chart Committee or from HQ.

Many many thanks!!! Have good skies, good seeing and a wonderful summer - of what is left of it.

Janet Akyüz Mattei
