Special Notice #93: Possible major outburst in EX Lup

January 21, 2008: The pre main-sequence eruptive variable EX Lup (AAVSO 1556-40)  appears to be in outburst. Albert Jones (Nelson, NZ) reports EX Lup at m(vis) = 9.5 on JD 2454485.1236 (2008 Jan 19, 14:58 UT). This is the second brightest outburst in this object's recorded history, behind the major outburst of m(vis) ~ 8.5, recorded around JD 2435300 (circa 1955). Observers are asked to continue monitoring this object through the current outburst. Filtered photometry of this outburst is encouraged; all observations including visual will be very useful in tracking the evolution of this current activity.
 
EX Lup is located at RA: 16:03:05.5 , Dec: -40:18:25 (J2000)
