AAVSO Headquarters
The Clinton B. Ford Astronomical Data and Research Center
The Headquarters of the AAVSO are located in the split-level Clinton B. Ford Astronomical Data and Research Center office
structure in the heart of Cambridge, Massachusetts, just a stone's throw from
the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for
Astrophysics and next to Sky Publishing Corporation.
Here are housed the AAVSO's administrative, scientific, data
processing, and variable star research facilities. With its own
Internet site, the AAVSO is linked directly to astronomers,
institutions and observers throughout the world.
The Clinton B. Ford Center was inaugurated in the afternoon of August 6,
1986 during the AAVSO 75th Anniversary Meeting. At the time of the inauguration, Dr. Clinton B. Ford held the office of Secretary of the AAVSO, was an avid observer, and donor of the new AAVSO Headquarters. After Dr. Ford took the podium to deliver a speech that recalled his long-time dream of a new and permanent home for the AAVSO,
two presentations were made. First, a citation from Governor Michael S. Dukakis lauding Dr. Ford's efforts was read and
presented by AAVSO Council President Thomas R. Williams, and then an elegant letter of congratulations from President Ronald
Reagan was similarly delivered by Mr. Keith Danskin, AAVSO First Vice-President.
