Kate Davis Astronomical Technical Assistant, Web
Kate joined the AAVSO staff in 1999 after graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in Physics/Astronomy. She also holds a BS in psychology from Vanderbilt University. Kate is responsible for developing and maintaining the extensive website of the AAVSO. She uses PHP, Java, and perl for website development and programming needs.
Kate creates web pages for various AAVSO publications, recent news stories, and new content that needs to be published. She updates the home page almost daily with new items and images that reflect the Organization's activities. She writes PHP and Perl programs for the web and enjoys a little Javascript and CSS to keep things interesting. She responds to feedback/questions about the web and analyses log files to generate web statistics.
Kate finds working at the AAVSO to be a unique and enriching experience. "It is rewarding to work for people who are doing something that they love to do and are contributing to science at the same time." When she is not in the office, you will find her studying Java and software design at Harvard Extension school, training for triathlons, hiking a 4,000 footer in NH, or taking her beagle, Bugsy, to the park.
