The Director's Award 2001

in recognition of

his enthusiastic dedication to variable star observing since September 1972, particularly in his providing valuable, and often pivotal, data during special observing runs with ground-based and satellite instruments;

his very careful and pertinent contributions to AAVSO chart work;

his focusing of his observing efforts, in response to AAVSO requests, to where they are most needed, including the monitoring of very faint minima of variable stars, and his scheduling observing sessions so that the resulting especially valuable observations eliminate or minimize gaps in the light curves.

It is a great pleasure to recognize Steve's dedication, enthusiasm, and meticulous regard for the quality of his work in variable star observing.
