In recognition of outstanding solar division contributors, the solar observer awards were initiated at the 1999 Annual Meeting. Certificates of award are presented to solar observers who have reached milestones of 1000, 1500, and 2000 sunspot observations. In 2004 a new SID awards program was put in place that will allow SID observers to get recognition for their efforts. The criteria for the award will be the submission of data for 40 months. An award will be given out to any observer during the fall meeting of the AAVSO that has reached this milestone by September of that year.
