SPECIAL ALERT NOTICE - II

We have just received a letter from Dr. Steve Mayo of Royal Greenwich Observatory in England stating that he and his colleagues will be observing dwarf novae from Tenerife, Canary Islands, once again. Their observing run is between May 2 and 22. He wishes to "enlist" our "aid" once more. He wishes to be alerted to the outburst of dwarf novae (UG and Z Cam stars), particularly those with short outburst periods. They will be able to observe stars between 08h and 24h in right ascension, and +70o to -30o in declination. The following stars are of particular interest:

Designation  Star         (Designation is 1900)
0803+62    SU UMa
0804+28    YZ Cnc
0855+18    SY Cnc
0945+12    X Leo
1133+03    T Leo
1140-03     TW Vir
1227+14    AL Com
1247-28     EX Hya
1454+41    TT Boo
1640+25    AH Her
1805-14     UZ Ser
1841+37    AY Lyr
1848+26    CY Cyr
1951-09     UU Aql
2138+42    SS Cyg
2209+12    RU Peg

Other dwarf novae at outburst are also important. As in the past, your help is crucial to the success of this experiment. Therefore, please observe the stars listed above and as many of the other dwarf novae as possible starting at the time you receive this Alert Notice until the end of May.

During the first part of this observing run I will be at our Spring Meeting. Therefore, for May 2 - 9, please call HQ before 11 a.m. (Steve Mayo calls from Tenerife around 11 a.m. EST) to give any outburst or follow-up data to my assistant, Elizabeth Waagen. If you observe any supermaxima, or other unusual activity, please alert us.

From May 9-22, you may call me at home on nights or weekends, and, of course, at HQ. When necessary, call collect.

Once again I extend to you the appreciation and sincere thanks of Dr. Mayo and his colleagues for your previous contributions. They are depending on us for this observing run also.

Many thanks, and good observing.
