SPECIAL AAVSO ALERT NOTICE ON DWARF NOVAE
Do continue your close monitoring of dwarf novae. Dr. Stiening from Stanford University and his colleagues will be observing these stars from Nov. 25th to Dec. 4th at Mt. Lemon, Arizona, and they have requested our help once again.
December 2, 2014: AAVSO Alert Notice 505 (http://www.aavso.org/aavso-alert-notice-505) announced the campaign on several northern dwarf novae by Deanne Coppejans and colleagues. This campaign, searching for radio jets in dwarf novae, has been moving very quickly! Thanks to your observations and timely notifications, three of the five sets of VLA observations available for the targets have been used on Z Cam, RX And, and YZ Cnc. The PI is extremely appreciative and thanks you all for your excellent work.
A group of astronomers led by Dr. James Miller-Jones of Curtin University and the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research have published a revised distance to the famed variable star SS Cygni, solving a major mystery surrounding this star and its behavior. Their work was made possible due to the dedication of dozens of observers worldwide who monitor SS Cygni and report their observations to the American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO).
February 14, 2011: Further to AAVSO Alert Notice 428 (2010 Nov 30), the dwarf nova FS Aurigae appears to be in outburst. The current outburst was detected simultaneously by P. Lake (Wonga Park, Victoria, Australia) at m(vis)=14.5 on 2011 Feb 14.0969 (JD 2455606.5969), and confirmed shortly after by G. Lubcke (Middleton, WI, USA) at around V=14.4 in time-series observations made simultaneously to the observation of Lake. Follow-up photometry of this star is encouraged.
