New Chinese Visual Observing Manual

I am very pleased to announce that we now have TWO Chinese translations of the AAVSO Manual for Visual Observing of Variable Stars available for downloading. The newest addition to our collection of Manual translations is in "Traditional Chinese" which is used in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and parts of southeast Asia. This beautiful translation was done by Tao Fan-Lin (陶蕃麟) who is the Director of the Taipei Association of Astronomy Now.

You can get both versions of the Chinese Manual here:

Visual Observing Manual in Persian

The Manual for Visual Observing of Variable Stars is now available in Persian (Farsi).

This translation would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of volunteers Fatemeh Bahrani and her colleagues, Ali Honarmand, Fateme Kayanikhoo, Mozhde Mohamadi, Sajad Safari, and Arezoo Saleki of the Dr. Hesabi Institute in Shiraz, Iran (http://www.dr-hesabi.org).

Visual Observing Manual in Hungarian

Thanks to the hard work, dedication, and persistence(!) of AAVSO member/observer Péter Molnár and Dr. László Kiss, the January 2010 edition of the "Manual for Visual Observing of Variable Stars" is now available in Hungarian.

If you know of anyone who may benefit from this translation, please spread the word!

New Visual Observing Manual in Chinese

Thanks to the efforts of Cheng Simiao, a young and very enthusiastic observer from Beijing, we now have a new, more up-to-date Chinese version of the "Manual for Visual Observing of Variable Stars" available for download. He wishes that this edition be thought of as a 100th birthday present to the AAVSO as well as an 18th birthday gift to himself.

Congratulations and many thanks to Mr. Cheng!

Visual Observing Manual updates

The Manual for Visual Observing of Variable Stars has been updated to reflect changes to the VSP and WebObs that happened when the new website was launched last summer. This mostly affects Chapters 2 and 7. To download these and other chapters, or the entire Manual, please click on the link below:
