Special Notice #7: Possible Nova in Sgr [V5117 Sgr]

February 18, 2006: William Liller (Vina del Mar Chile) reports a possible nova at 17:58.9 -36:48 J2000. Its approximate magnitude is 9.0, and was seen on three photos taken near Feb. 17.37UT. Bill Allen (NZ) has taken B and V images that confirm the new object. Inspection of the DSS2 images of this region do not show any bright precursor; any possible faint precursor will require careful astrometry in this crowded field.

Mati Morel has derived a sequence from V=5.7 to V=12.9 based on Tycho2 and ASAS; this will be posted shortly, along with more details.

Special Notice #190: Probable Nova in Sagittarius [V5585 Sgr]

January 24, 2010: Further to CBET 2140 (D.W.E. Green, editor), a probably nova has been discovered in Sagittarius by J. Seach (Chatsworth Is., NSW, Australia). The object was discovered by Seach on 2010 January 20.22 UT (JD 2455216.72) at a magnitude of approximately 8.5 using a DSLR with 50-mm f/1.4 lens and orange filter, at coordinates RA: 18:07:26 , Dec: -29:01:00. Nothing was visible at this location in a prior image taken 2009 November 15.89 to a limit of mag 11.5. The object has since been confirmed by several observers: W.

Special Notice #195: Nova Oph 2010 No. 2 [V2674 Oph]

February 20, 2010: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams CBET 2176 (Daniel W. E. Green, ed.) announces the discovery by Hideo Nishimura, Miyawaki, Kakegawa, Shizuoka-ken, Japan, of a probable nova (confirmed in CBET 2179). Discovery was Feb. 18.845 UT at magnitude 9.4, on two 13-s frames using a Minolta 120-mm f/3.5 lens and a Canon EOS 5D Digital camera mounted on a Takahashi EM100 equatorial telescope.

Special Notice #196: Possible Nova in Scorpius - N Sco 2010 [V1310 Sco]

February 23, 2010: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams CBET 2183 (Daniel W. E. Green, ed.) announces the discovery by Koichi Nishiyama, Kurume, Fukuoka-ken, Japan; and Fujio Kabashima, Miyaki-cho, Saga-ken, Japan, of a possible nova in Scorpius at magnitude 10.5 on two 40-s unfiltered CCD frames (limiting magnitude 12.7) taken around Feb. 20.857 UT. They confirmed the new object at magnitude 10.3 on unfiltered CCD frames (limiting magnitude 17.4-17.6) taken around Feb. 21.832 and magnitude 10.7 on Feb.

Special Notice #198: Possible Outburst of GK Per

March 9, 2010: The old nova (1901) and x-ray source GK Per may be going into outburst. Reports beginning late on 2010 March 6 UT show it brightening from its minimum visual magnitude of about 13.1 to 12.3-12.4.

When GK Per went nova in 1901, its disk was destroyed. Eventually the disk was re-established, and dwarf nova-like outbursts were observed.

Special Notice #207: Possible Nova in Scorpius - N Sco 2010 No. 2 [V1311 Sco]

April 26, 2010: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams CBET 2262 (Daniel W. E. Green, ed.) announces the discovery by Koichi Nishiyama, Kurume, Fukuoka-ken, Japan; and Fujio Kabashima, Miyaki-cho, Saga-ken, Japan, of a possible nova in Scorpius [V1311 Sco] at magnitude 8.6 on two 40-s unfiltered CCD frames (limiting magnitude 13.1) taken around April 25.788 UT. They confirmed the new object on unfiltered CCD frames (limiting magnitude 17.3) taken around April 25.796 from which they measured the following precise position:
