Special Notice #251: Possible transient in Scorpius

September 6, 2011: John Seach (Chatsworth Island, NSW, Australia) reports the detection of a transient object in Scorpius, having a magnitude of 9.8 on 2011 September 6.37 UT (JD 2455810.87).  Observations were made with a DSLR and 50mm f/1.2 lens and 5 second exposure, with limiting magnitude 10.5.  The object is visible on four separate frames taken after the discovery was made.

"The star appears at mag 10.2 photographic, on 2 films taken on August 4.73UT using a 135F2 cannon lens and tmax 400 film.unfiltered. No object is present on film taken on july 5.85UT down to 11.7pg. No previous variable stars are reported at this near position."

The coordinates are: 14 54 20  -55 05 03  J2000

Discovery Magnitude: magnitude 9.5 on three CCD images (limiting
mag 11.0) taken with a digital SLR camera (+ 50-mm f/1.2 lens
+ orange filter).  

Coordinates: R.A. = 16:55:11, Decl. = -38:38:12 (equinox 2000.0)

Erupción de la nova recurrente T Pyxidis

La nova recurrente T Pyxidis ha sido descubierta en erupción. Fue detectada por M. Linnolt (Hawaii, Estados Unidos) con magnitud visual 13.0 en abril 14.2931, 2011 (JD 2455665.7931), y confirmada por A. Plummer (m(vis)=12.2, JD 2455665.8847) y S. Kerr (m(vis)=11.3, JD 2455665.9410).  Esta es la primer erupción de T Pyx desde el 7 de diciembre de 1966, hace casi 45 años. Se solicitan urgentemente observaciones de esta rara variable eruptiva, comenzando inmediatamente.
