October 2, 2015: Further to AAVSO Alert Notice 511, issued in March 2015, Dr. George Rieke (University of Arizona) and colleagues' campaign to monitor planetary debris disks for variability using the Spitzer Space Telescope continues. AAVSO observations are requested to rule out variability of the stars themselves.
The second segment of observations of the four targets takes place from now into January 2016 according to the schedule below.
March 13, 2015: Dr. George Rieke (University of Arizona) and colleagues have requested AAVSO assistance in monitoring four stars with developing planetary systems. The targets are RZ Psc, HD 15407A, V488 Per, and HD 23514. This campaign is similar to the one conducted in 2013 (see AAVSO Alert Notice 482).
Dr. Rieke writes: "We have obtained 130 hours of time on the Spitzer Space Telescope to continue monitoring planetary debris disks for variability. We are asking for help from AAVSO for this program.
We request nightly BVRI CCD observations of the symbiotic eclipsing binary star AS 325 until December 1, 2005. The goal of the campaign is to determine the nature of this enigmatic system by looking for changes in color during the current eclipse and also to support upcoming observations with the Spitzer Space Telescope planned for September.
AS 325 is at R.A. = 18:50:03.6 Dec. = -26:24:18 (2000).
August 17, 2005: Our assistance has been requested by Dr. Stefanie Wachter, Spitzer Science Center, Caltech, in observing the low-mass x-ray binary V818 Sco (Sco X-1) in support of her upcoming Spitzer observations of this object.
May 16, 2008 : Dr. Steve Howell (NOAO) requests monitoring of a subset of the known and suspected tremendous outburst amplitude dwarf novae (TOADs) in support of Spitzer Space Telescope observations of these objects. Observers are asked to increase their monitoring of the objects in the table below in support of this campaign. We note that several of these objects -- notably the WZ Sge stars WZ Sge, GW Lib, and V455 And -- are not expected to superoutburst during the next year, but observations are still encouraged in case they exhibit unexpected behavior.
Kunegunda Belle, Don Hoard and Steve Howell are observing two cataclysmic variables with Spitzer during the next couple of weeks. They request ground-based light curves spanning the observation intervals so that they can identify the state each variable is in during the Spitzer visits.
