Observing Software KSOLO 4.2

The data-entry program KSOLO.EXE and report-formatting program KSOLOREP.EXE can save you much time and effort in recording your observations and preparing your AAVSO monthly report. All you have to do is input your observations (in any order you want, as often as you want during the month) and the computer will do everything else! Whether you send your observations to the AAVSO on paper, diskette, or by modem, you will save yourself a lot of work and help us when you use the programs.

The AAVSO is making available to its visual observers data-entry (KSOLO), data-editing (KSOLOEDT), and monthly report-formatting (KSOLOREP) programs to assist in recording and reporting observations of variable stars to the AAVSO. These programs may be used to create monthly report files to send to the AAVSO on diskette, electronically, or as a printout.

Submitting data to the AAVSO via diskette or electronic mail:

If you want to submit MONTHLY data to the AAVSO via diskette or electronic mail (e-mail), please use the programs KSOLO.EXE and KSOLOREP.EXE, and send in the two output files produced by KSOLOREP.EXE. First, use KSOLO.EXE to create observational data files in AAVSO format. Then run KSOLOREP.EXE on these files to create the two files you will send to AAVSO. One of the files you will send contains your data as they will be added to the other observers' data at AAVSO Headquarters. The other file contains a formatted report for the AAVSO printout records, and includes observer information, comparison star magnitudes, chart information, and explanations of comments.

If you want to submit NIGHTLY observations:

Use KSOLO.EXE and send in the individual output data files produced by KSOLO.EXE. You do not need to run KSOLOREP when submitting NIGHTLY observations.

The files you send to the AAVSO should be on a standard DOS format 5.25-inch diskette (either 360K or 1.2M) or on a 3.5-inch diskette, or should be sent via e-mail to observations@aavso.org. There is no upper limit on the size of files we can handle at Headquarters.

Your diskette will be returned to you a few months after the monthly data have been processed.
