I was notified by a colleague that Doug Hall passed away last week.  He was former director of Dyer Observatory at Vanderbilt, but his name is deeply associated with precision photoelectric photometry, particularly of RS CVn stars.

There's an obituary and rememberance of his life on the Vanderbilt University website: http://news.vanderbilt.edu/2013/03/douglas-hall-obit/

We extend our condolences to his family and friends.

Doug Hall

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Doug. I was a young, budding amateur in the late 1970's and working with Larry Lovell, Howard Landis, and others doing PEP of certain stars. We had papers published as co-authors with Doug. Larry Lovell lived near me and took me under his wing to teach me PEP the old fashioned way at Hickox Observatory in Auburn, Ohio. Those were the good old days!
