exoplanet "variables" and finding comp stars for these

I am an infrequent forum poster so please excuse if this is not in the right bucket...

i am entertaining an exoplanet project - reading up on this while i wil do some practice on other more pronounced variables...

the best source i have found for exoplanet transit predictions is the Czech ETD database - which is very easy to use....but the stars in question usually seem to have their exoplanet target names eg "Qatar 2" or "WASP 55"  - and these often do not translate into other formats which are more readily recognised , eg by VSX.  Am I missing a simple translation service for these stars to get them into a format that is recognisable by the main analysis programmes..?

if I wished to request comp starts on a 43" field for Qatar 2 - is that a matter of typing in the co-ordinates or is there a more definitive way of making sure we are hitting the right targets? I am a bit loathe to submit a request for a new VSX entry (assuming I am correct that Qatar 2 is not in VSX) unless given a bit of comfort from other users that I am not messing up the system!

Many thanks

Exoplanet Comps

Gavin:

You can certainly type in the name on the AAVSO web page and click VSX to see if it is listed. (It is not)

There is nothing "un-definitive" about typing in the RA/Dec in the VSP. You might copy/paste from the ETD page to avoid typing errors. (No comps show up on the chart)

Try seqplot with RA/Dec to look for nearby APASS comps. (There are several)

You can request that it be put into VSX although I'm not sure if the VSX team has made a decision about entering exoplanets into the database?

You will NOT mess up the system!

Exoplanets in VSX

Hi guys,

Therw wasn't any attempt to be up to date with the exoplanets discoveries in VSX at the beginning but it becomes evident that the interest is growing and growing and they would be considered for VSX inclussion because we are getting several individual requests.

I have been struggling to get the best data available from the different sources and make a list in VSX format so we can have them all in the database.
I will give it a higher priority in my to-do list and get them ready ASAP. In any case, if the information is not the best, it can be revised afterwards.
That won't be next week but probably in 10 days or so.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Thanks for speedy

Thanks for speedy responses.

If it helps at all Sinbad seems to recognise the "common"/exo-survey names of these stars (eg WASP, QATAR).

Exoplanets added to VSX

131 stars showing exoplanet transits have been added to VSX.

If you find some that is still missing, let us know and we will add it but the ones with the largest amplitudes are now in VSX.

Cheers,
Sebastian
