When I go to Upload > View processed Images, my images are showing as processed OK. However, my images do not show up when I go to view images uploaded. Server load is showing medium.

Sure enough, there's something strange here, I can see them in the logs on the server, but they are not in the database.

I have turned on more logging features, can you please upload a single test image again?

Hi Geir,

Thanks for checking. I just uploaded a test image (test20130211_1352.fit) a couple of minutes ago. Now even that image is not showing up in the View Processed Images.

Well, that does at least make sense. So the image did not process, here is the error message:

- PinPoint error: Failed to open image file for read access. Extension doesn't start with SIMPLE or XTENSION keyword. (ffrhdu) SIMPLE‚=”T²BITPIX‚=“16/8unsignedint,16&32int,-32&-64real…NAXISƒ=”2/n ffopen could not interpret primary array header of file: D:\Incoming\temp\test20130211_1352.fit This does not look like a FITS file. And there may be other problems, too - Error: No FITS image file is attached.

The first line in the header reads

SIMPLE‚=”T²BITPIX

So it seems corrupted. What processing software have you used on this image? Could you try an un-processed image?

Hi Geir,

Thanks for your sleuthing.

I am using MaxIm DL 5.15 on Win7 64-bit.

I re-calibrated a RAW image and the FITS header looks fine (i.e. SIMPLE=T). I've uploaded successfully.

Kinda strange that VPhot View Processed Images shows status as OK for those "corrupt" images.

I have no idea how the FITS files could have been corrupted during a calibration. The calibrated files opened in MaxIm DL and AIP4WIN.

I seem to have similar problems:The images appear to be processed OK, but then do not show up.
In fact, I had processed one a few days ago that was processed and showed up flawlessly. I am not aware to have done anything differently now.

I am a little under time pressure since I have to finish my exam for the CCD-Calibration CHOICE course. VPhot is a VERY good and helpful program (if it worked ;) ).  Thanks to veryone who developed and is developing it !!!

Cheers,

Helmar

Hi,

OK, I found the images on disk on the server (good thing I did not turn off the extended debugging features yet!). This case was a bit different, no images are corrupted.

The conclusion first: if you upload two images taken with the same telescope and at the same time, VPHOT treat those as the same image. So you will only see one image in the list, the one last uploaded. Note that the image file name is not considered.

If you are to analyse images this makes sense, you would not need multiple copies of the same image on the server. But if one is to use those images in an educational context, one might want to see the difference between a raw and a calibrated image.

If that is desirable one have to either change the observation time, as defined by the DATE and UT header fields, but I would rather suggest creating a new telescope setup in VPHOT, and use one for raw images and one for calibrated images. That way you can easily see the difference in the image list.

Hello Geir,

You wrote:

As a new user to VPhot: "Silly me", and my apolgies!  In a way I was afraid of that since my file names did not appear in VPhot's display any more. Would it be possible (if you want to leave it this way) to make "same telescope/same time" etc. possible in a test/educational section? You described now a way around (see below) - which I will try - but new users might not get to know...

"If you are to analyse images this makes sense, you would not need multiple copies of the same image on the server. But if one is to use those images in an educational context, one might want to see the difference between a raw and a calibrated image."

I was absolutely amazed how easy(=time saver) it was to use VPhot for the analysis of a properly calibrated image avoiding a lot of possible mistakes otherwise likely.

Again, thanks for making it available and helping us using a great tool!

Helmar
