Hi,

just saw this abstract by Gordon Myers and Ken Menzies in the latest JAAVSO:

Applying Transformation and Extinction to Magnitude Estimate—How Much Does It Improve Results? (Abstract)

If Gordon or Ken reads this post could you let me know if you intend writing up a full paper on your results? Cheers,

Mark

JAAVSO Abstract

Hi Mark:
I guess they aren't planning on a paper.  I too would be very interested in seeing their results - it's something I've tried to work through given colour differences between comp and target stars, etc.  They also relate peripherally to some work that I'm doing (which I hope one day will become a JAAVSO paper.)

I assume these many abstracts are for papers presented at the AAVSO meetings.  Are the talks recorded?  Are they accessible?  (I can't find them on aavso.org.)  Not to tout the 'competition' but the Society for Astronomical Science records and makes available all/most of their talks and it is a tremendous resource.  Particularly in a situation like this where we get teased with outstanding abstracts but no follow-on!  Maybe the point is to get all of us to come to all the meetings.

JAAVSO Abstract

Hi Richard,

The talk was presented at the joint BAA-AAVSO meeting in Warwick, UK last year. It was recorded and is available from the BAA website (https://britastro.org/video/13862/14771). Unfortunately only the first 2 minutes are available unless you are a BAA member. I took the plunge and joined so I could see the full video and others from that meeting, and more.

Cheers,

Mark

Paper in the work..

Ken and I are working on a paper.  Ken's done his part already.  Hope to have it ready within a month and submitted to JAAVSO.
