Just getting started

We recently released a significant update to the backend systems for the AAVSO website. While most of the bugs introduced by this update have been fixed, there may still be problems we haven't fixed. If you run into a problem, please email webmaster@aavso.org

I am Richard Arvedson.  Soon I will be a retired teacher and I want to try to make some observations of variable stars.  I am a deep sky observer but I now live in a light polluted city (Houston, TX)

Are there stars that are suggested for beginners?  Thanks.

Hi Richard,

We do have a list of stars that are easy to find, easy to observe and cover a range of brightness and location on the sky. You will find the list here:

 http://www.aavso.org/easy-stars

We also provide links to constellation finder charts for most of them.

Enjoy!
