Kathy Spirer

Kathy is a graduate of the University of St. Joseph, West Hartford, CT (BA Education) and  Northeastern University, Boston, MA (MBA). Kathy is both an educator and a business professional.  Education, technology and community service have been a common thread throughout her career.  Following graduate school Kathy was the National Sales Manager for Learning Technologies, Inc. (LTI), Cambridge, MA .  LTI designed and distributed StarLab, a portable planetarium system that brought astronomy education to thousands of students and teachers around the world. With the arrival of her two sons Kathy left sales and joined the faculty at Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) where she was appointed Department Chair of Management Sciences. During her tenure at WIT she worked with faculty, community organizations and the Massachusetts Pre-Engineering Program ( MassPEP) to develop applied technology programs for K-12. To fund these and future programs Kathy was the Principal Investigator on several National Science Foundation, U. S. Department of Education, and Massachusetts Department of Education grants supporting K-12 education programs focused on science, applied technology, engineering and mathematics for K-12 students and teachers.

Most recently Kathy served as the Executive Director of two local nonprofit organizations, the Charles River Public Internet Center (CRPIC) and Cambridge at Home (CAH).

Kathy brings experience, enthusiasm, and a love of education and community service to the AAVSO.
