Lauren Rosenbaum

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Lauren Rosenbaum joined the AAVSO in summer 2011 as the part-time Administrative Assistant.  She makes sure the organization keeps up with its mailings, emails, and phone calls, and is eager to become an expert on the AAVSO so she can answer as many questions as possible.  She has always wanted to hold an administrative position, because she finds joy in easing the lives of her co-workers, and she loves to perfect small details. Lauren particularly enjoys working at the AAVSO because of their dedication to bringing together amateur and professional astronomy. She loves seeing that everybody with an interest in science can contribute, and that amateurs are so valuable to the study of variable stars.

Lauren came to the AAVSO after working with children most of her life.  She studied psychology and childhood education at New York University, while working with children in a myriad of school, camp, and home environments.  She enjoys finding ways of making science more accessible to children--at her previous job at an afterschool program, she taught a club about space for a group of Kindergarten, first, and second grade students!  One of her current projects at the AAVSO is designing kid-friendly activities to offer when families arrive for tours of headquarters.

Lauren is currently a full-time graduate student at Tufts University, where she is studying to become a school psychologist.  She also interns with a school psychologist in the Cambridge Public Schools.  Lauren enjoys reading novels and news/opinion articles, having picnics with her friends, baking, and Zumba dance.
