Margaret Mayall Assistantship Open for Applications for Summer 2011

We recently released a significant update to the backend systems for the AAVSO website. While most of the bugs introduced by this update have been fixed, there may still be problems we haven't fixed. If you run into a problem, please email webmaster@aavso.org

(update: this position has been filled.)

The American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) is looking
for a web programmer for its annual Margaret Mayall Assistantship
program. The MMA is a program to provide experience to students (high
school through graduate college) interested in working in a scientific
research environment. The position pays $12/hour for eight, 35-hour
work weeks in the summer of 2011. The student will assist the
webmaster and other staff in basic programming for the AAVSO web site.
A working knowledge of Perl or PHP along with at least a familiarity
with MySQL is required.  Experience with CSS, Drupal, Apache, Linux
and/or Python would be very useful. In addition to web programming,
the student will be provided an opportunity to participate in an
astronomical research project if they are so interested. Hours are
flexible and the location is at Fresh Pond in Cambridge, easily
accessible from Harvard Square or Alewife. Please send resumes to
aavso@aavso.org. No phone calls or recruiters, please.

Please distribute this announcement to any web pages, blogs or mailing lists in the Boston area. Thanks.
