HD 80606 Exoplanet Transit Campaign
Note: This observing campaign is now over.
The AAVSO is working with www.transitsearch.org
to coordinate the observing campaign of HD 80606 and its most unusual extrasolar planet. With an orbital eccentricity of e ~ 0.93, HD 80606b ranks as the most eccentric planet known. HD 80606 has a visual binary companion called HD 80607. It has been suggested that HD 80606b's extreme eccentricity may be the result of a three-body interaction between the planet and these two stars (Wu & Murray 2003).
There are some challenges to this observing request, including a low probability of transit and a relatively bright star companion. However, detecting this transit would give us an unprecedented characaterization of this remote orbiting world, so we need your help!
We are recommending intense photometric monitoring of the star during the four-day window centered on 2005 Feb 25 19:39 UT. Please submit your photometry using WebObs, the AAVSO online data submission tool. It is easy to use and will help format all of the observations appropriately.
