28 July CHOICE Fall Schedule 2014

The Fall Schedule of CHOICE courses has been set. Most courses are available to AAVSO members AND the general public.  Class size is limited to 15 people, so sign up as soon as you can to save a seat. Registrations are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are handled through our online store. The fee for AAVSO members is $30.00. Non-members pay $50.00.

24 July Special Notice #387: EE Cep eclipse and comparison stars

July 24, 2014:The eclipse of EE Cep (AAVSO Alert Notice 502) appears to be gradually beginning, according to observations in the AAVSO International Database. Please observe this system according to the instructions given in the Alert Notice.

09 July Alert Notice 502: EE Cep observations requested for upcoming eclipse

July 9, 2014: The AAVSO requests observations for the upcoming eclipse of EE Cephei, a long-period eclipsing variable. EE Cep has a period of 2,050 days, and shows strong variations in the eclipse light curve from one event to the next. Observations are needed to study the morphology of the upcoming eclipse, which will be used to better understand the shape of the eclipsing disk and how it precesses. Mid-eclipse is predicted to be August 23, 2014, but the early stages of the eclipse may begin as much as a month earlier.

03 July AAVSO Newsletter for July 2014 is published

AAVSO Newsletter 61, July 2014 is now available to members

The AAVSO Newsletter is a periodic, general forum that supports our various observing programs with lists of new targets, observing programming ideas, and general information that spans a wide area of interest. Guest writers contribute pieces that can range from current events to book reviews.

26 June VStar 2.16.1 Release

A new version of VStar has just been released! This version contains security upgrades and will re-enable the Plug-in Manager and discrepant observation reporting that were disabled in the wake of the AAVSO Security breach. (Please note that the Members-only BSM and APASS Epoch Photometry plugins are still not available until further security measures can be implemented.)

In addition to the security upgrades, David Benn has also corrected several bugs and incorporated other changes based on valuable feedback from participants in his recent VStar CHOICE course.
