AAVSO Special Notice #93

Possible major outburst in EX Lup
January 21, 2008

The pre main-sequence eruptive variable EX Lup (AAVSO 1556-40)
appears to be in outburst. Albert Jones (Nelson, NZ) reports
EX Lup at m(vis) = 9.5 on JD 2454485.1236 (2008 Jan 19,
14:58 UT). This is the second brightest outburst in this
object's recorded history, behind the major outburst of
m(vis) ~ 8.5, recorded around JD 2435300 (circa 1955).
Observers are asked to continue monitoring this object through
the current outburst. Filtered photometry of this outburst is
encouraged; all observations including visual will be very
useful in tracking the evolution of this current activity.
