Monitoring of Evryscope targets requested for follow-up

AAVSO Alert Notice 585 announces an observing campaign following up on 8 Evryscope targets to confirm debris/planetesimals transit candidates and variable stars. Please see the notice for details and observing instructions.

Many thanks, and Good observing,

Elizabeth Waagen, AAVSO HQ

Thanks for following up first Evryscope targets

Hello to all AAVSO observers,

First I would like to thank you guys for the effort you put in the our first Evryscope follow up Alert Notice 585.

That was really helpful.

Let me add a few words about the program we are pursuing with Evryscope at CTIO: the telescope is surveying all Southern stars down to g'=16mag (20k-35k epochs/year), at 2min cadence and with a long term (including all sky, cloud conditions, Moon cycle) 1% photometric level at g'=10mag.

Our AAVSO-requested observations are confirmation observations for one of our sub surveys covering WDs and hot subdwarfs, searching for transit and debris-disk-like variability. From the 5000 or so targets we’re monitoring, and for the first data analysis, only a dozen or so showed to be candidates (we’ also following-up other targets using other facilities), the rest have good light curves but no obvious variability.
Two of the targets we requested are a hot subdwarf showing debris-disk-like changes (EC 23073-6905) and a 25-hr sinusoidal pulsation/rotation curve (JL 94).  The former would be the first detection of a transiting debris disk around a hot sudwarf.

Your awesome quality follow up observations plus others we got from other facilities have confirmed these two targets to be not-variable.

We expect to submit to AAVSO more targets to be followed up in the future.

Clear skies,

Octavi.

Campaign Status

So at this point in time, is the campaign complete?

From my northern location 2MASS J05144393-0848064 is just barely above alt 30 for 4-5 hours.  However, if observations are no longer required, I move on to something else.

best regards,

Cliff K
