Validation List

The AAVSO Validation List is the list of stars for which AAVSO accepts data.

The list consists of the star's GCVS name (or a name assigned by the AAVSO if the star has not yet been assigned a GCVS name) and AAVSO Unique Identifier (AUID). For older stars in our program, we also include the Harvard Designation.

Click here to display the list as a HTML table in your web browser. (~9 MB)

Click here to download the list as a comma separated ASCII file. (~1 MB)

The Validation List is a live list that is regularly growing and being revised. Feel free to contact us with questions.

080114 Update: The "names" used by the AAVSO for around 324 stars were changed to be unique and to adhere to the same naming convention as the GCVS and Simbad. Click here for a list of the changes.

Requesting New Stars

A procedure has been created to add new stars to our validation file in a quick fashion. To request that we add a new star, first make sure the star is in VSX. If it is, then submit the observation to us via WebObs and we will automatically add it to the Validation List. If it is not, send a note to aavso@aavso.org with details on the star you want added. We will respond within 3 business days of your request! You will get an immediate e-mail response with a ticket number you can use to track your request.
