Posting Your Observations
- If you are observing a GRB field and have Internet access please tell
us what part of the error field you are observing so others can search
the other areas.
- When you have done a quick analysis, feel free to e-mail it to the
discussion group
- When you are sure of your results, post it via the Official Reporting
Form: http://www.aavso.org/observing/programs/hen/submit.shtml
- Remember negative observations are useful too!
Publishing Your Observations
We have very stringent rules we must apply before issuing a GCN. Issuing a
poor or erroneous GCN could create irreversible damage to the reputation of
the network causing future observations to be ignored by the professional
community. So we have to be extra dilligent. You aren't just posting for
yourself, but for over 200 other people in the network with you.
The network coordinators have been given a set of requirements and
confirmation criteria. We must follow the requirements. The more data you
take, the better the chances of publication. If you think you see the
afterglow, keep imaging as long as your skies allow it! And then follow it
as soon as you can the next day. Fading behaviour is an important
indication of an afterglow. Also, get your uncertainty as low as possible.
Fading photometry can be useless if it is within the uncertainty/error of
your system.
IT IS VITAL THAT OBSERVATIONS BE REPORTED USING THIS FORM:
http://www.aavso.org/observing/programs/hen/submit.shtml
We have placed in this form all the information that a coordinator would
need in deciding whether to issue a GCN or not. If a GCN is issued, then
everything we would need to include in it is here as well. It may seem long
but if you leave *anything* out then it will postpone the publication of
your observation while we contact you and await the missing data.
We also need your FTS images. Either attach them to the upload form or ftp
them to the AAVSO's FTP site with this login info:
