Photoelectric Photometry Newsletter
Report of the AAVSO PEP Committee
This is the report of PEP observations made by 17 PEP observers by 1 June 1999 in the fiscal year 1998-1999. We are doing well with 1936 observations. The grand total in the AAVSO PEP archive now stands at 26032 observations since 1983. W. Clark, MO, 46; L. Cox, CAN, 5; Bob Crumerline, NY, 12; Frank Dempsey, CAN, 66; S. Dalaporta, IT, 316; F. de Villiers, SA, 84; P. Kneipp, LA, 14; W. Jones, SA, 243; E. Lopata, CA, 6; K. Luedeke, NM, 281; P. Manker, GA, 135; Mike Smith, AZ, 65; H. Sorensen, DEN, 23; N. Stoikidis, GR, 20; R. Thompson, CAN, 589; D. Williams, IN, 25; J. Wood, CA, 6.
We are working with several people who want to become PEP observers - some who have returned to observing, and some who have asked for information. With others, I have had several e-mail exchanges, answering questions, and giving advice when appropriate. Dr. Nick Stoikidis of Greece is back observing after three years of being inactive, and Bob Crumerline of NY is a new observer. Prospective observers who have part or all of their equipment are Larry Sumner of VA and Doug West of KA. I can now transmit all beginner's instructional material for the new observer by e-mail except finder charts. Dr. John R. Percy, University of Toronto, published one issue (Volume 19, Number 1, January 1999) of the AAVSO Photoelectric Photometry Newsletter. The PEPNL should be read by any PEP observer as it is quite inspirational. (To receive it, e-mail your request to AAVSO and ask that your name be added to the mailing list.) John usually gets out more, but he can be excused this year as he has been very busy with the "Partners in Astronomy" meeting. Thank you very much, John.
Respectfully submitted.
