Gema Araujo's H-alpha image on May 5, 2007 at 13:07 of region 10953 showing the flare recorded below.

The above SID plot from the Moore Observatory VLF monitor in Brownsboro, Kentucky showing a nice C4 flare just before 1300UT. It was nice to see both sunspot and flare activity this month. Have a happy solstice.

The events listed above meet at least one of the following criteria

  1. Event reported by two or more observers within +/- 5 minutes
  2. Event matched to GOES-8 XRA event to within +/- 15 minutes and event time < 1000 UT
  3. Reported by observer with a high quality rating > 8 (scale 1-10)

Solar Events

May showed a slight increase in SID activity with 10 correlated events reported by observers. A welcome change from the last few months. The solar activity was spread pretty evenly throughout the month with a surge of activity at the beginning and again at mid-month. There were 70 X-Ray flares detected by the GOES satellite. Most of these were lower class events. There were 5 C-Class events and the rest of them were lower B-Class events. Thanks to all our observers for reporting in this month. Your continued observations are appreciated.
