Volume 62 Number 9September 2006

Solar activity continues to decline as noticed by the sunspot and SID data. It's also pretty easy to see from the graph below of smoothed sunspot numbers covering the past six years. Thanks again to all our contributing observers. Please send more photos and drawings as I'd like to include them in the bulletin.

The events listed above meet at least one of the following criteria

  1. Event reported by two or more observers within +/- 5 minutes
  2. Event matched to GOES-8 XRA event to within +/- 15 minutes and event time < 1000 UT
  3. Reported by observer with a high quality rating > 8 (scale 1-10)

Solar Events

SID eventsSeptember was an excpetionaly slow month for SIDs. Most observers reported having recorded no SIDs for the month. There were 3 correlated events however, most of them of low importance rating. The GOES-12 satellite recorded 94 X-Ray events. Of these most were B-Class events although 5 were C-Class. As can be seen from the GOES data summary below, the end of the month was especially inactive. Thanks to all of you who reported in.
