One of the questions that have been asked of the Park Service Rangers is:
"At what altitude do the deer turn into elk?"
Along those lines, "at what point does a transit become an eclipse?" The general physical geometry
is the same: one body going in front of another.
If eclipse means "the more distant body is completely covered", then why when the moon goes across
the sun but is a tad too small is the event called "an annular eclipse" and not a "transit"? ;=)
I've had _two_ cups of coffee and the caffeine _still_ hasn't kicked in! As one gets older, he needs
either more caffeine or jumper cables <g>
I second Arne's recommendation to give the upcoming event a try. It's good practice for higher
precision work. That's always worth a little time.
