Dear colleagues,
Last Tuesday, many of us had the privilege of observing a transit of planet
Venus. I have pleasure to let you know that - some time ago - I succeeded in
observing a similar transit, outside our Solar system. A so called
'exoplanet transit'.
It concerns a transit of HD 209458b, a planet orbiting an 8th mag star in
Pegasus. My (photometric) observations were made in September 2003, but it
took me quite some effort and time to derive an appropriate analysis method
to make the exoplanet signature explicit in the observed light curve.
An in-depth explanation of the observations and the used observing method is
presented on my website www.cbabelgium.com. It includes a light curve, that
nicely shows the complete transit from ingress to egress. In addition,
there's some background information on exoplanets and Transitsearch.org.
With kind regards,
Tonny
