Hey, all. I'm currently on a family vacation and away from home or
else I would have sent out an alert from the office about BZ UMa. We
have excellent coverage of the last 2 outbursts. I presented a poster
with the results at the latest AAS meeting. The poster can be
downloaded here:
http://www.aavso.org/news/price-aas.pdf
Basically we don't know what type it is: either a UGSU or an IP.
Lots of rare and interesting things in its spectra too, including a
report of over 5 peaks and stronger than expected Calcium lines. After
we did the poster, Grant Foster helped me analyze your data from the
last 2 outbursts and we hope to publish it soon.
The outburst is short and bright. There will likely be
quasi-periodic oscillations, especially on the 2nd and third night.
Please observe it for as long as you can! Aim for 0.01 accuracy and go
unfiltered if you need to. The QPOs last for hours so it is important
to make your run a slong as possible. The outburst will likely last
only 4 days, so get on it quickly!
I'll be back in the office Tuesday and I'll post much more about BZ
UMa then, there is a lot to talk about with regards to this enigmatic
star.
