Chat Room Uses

HQ has been kind enough to leave the chat room open
for around a month now.  I find it is a great place to
visit with other observers during the night.  It is a
nice tool to help keep awake and motivated as well as
an occasional exchange of useful information.  You can
either talk with a friend or participate with several
folks
. By the way, for those of you who are not
aware, once you are signed on to the chat room you can
create a separate “room” for you and a friend who is
also signed on if you just want to chat among
yourselves
 lots of useful options for communications.

My friend Jim Jones (JJI) and I often find ourselves
having the chat room to ourselves during the night,
when we are both able to observe
 we are both in the
same time zone, which is of some help.

I would encourage all observers to sign in at any time
(provided the link is open and hopefully it will
remain open 24/7) when you are observing; a nice place
to chat between equipment tweaks.  Or, if you just
want to chat with some folks that might be observing
if you are weathered in please sign on.

If you happen to be the first one to sign in then
please stick around a few hours and see if some one
else shows up
 give it a try a few times.

If you sign on and see some others signed on but no
activity it is possible they are away tending
equipment or doing a few chores
 or maybe even chasing
a GRB from a Swift Notice
. Hang in there.

Just keep in mind that folks signed on when observing
are often interrupted and may have long absences from
time to time and without notice.

To HQ:  While Thursdays is still a great day for a 
“formal” chat day and the occasional guest I hope you
will consider keeping the chat room open 24/7 for a
few months to see if folks find it to be a good tool.
