Hi everyone,

I am based in the UK and have just joined the AAVSO -
this is my first post to this list and I hope that
soon I will be able to produce some useful data. Being
new to photometry I have a few questions of course -
any help would greatly appreciated!

I have a FLI Maxcam ME2 NABG camera + filter wheel and
'v' band filter. I am finding it hard deciding what
'scope to use it with. I intend to get a GOTO mount,
but I have 2 main concerns regarding the OTA-

1) I have a 5" F6 Achromat refractor - Would this be
acceptable to use for CCD photometry - ie would the V
filter cancel out the false colour problem?

2) Reflectors - When using an aperture photometry
package (such as IRIS) how do you get around the
diffraction spikes in the image caused by the spider
vanes? Won't they encroach on the 'sky' annulus and
cause false readings?

Regards,
Mick
