It's time again to start thinking about the Society for Astronomical Science's
annual Symposium, especially if you would like to present a paper. It takes time
to do research and write it up. With generally bad weather coming for the U.S.
(winter is almost upon us), it's never too soon to start gathering data and
putting it into a paper. Poster papers are welcome, too!
The Symposium will be at the Northwoods Resort in Big Bear, CA, on Wed/Thu, May
24/25, 2006. This is just before the big Riverside Telescope Makers Conference -
Astronomy Expo on Memorial Day weekend so you can make it an astronomical
vacation. There will be a workshop again on Tuesday, May 23, which will be
structured like a "mini-University" with several concurrent sessions. If you
can't do the morning session with David Bradstreet on Binary Maker 3, sign up for
the one in the afternoon. Other classes will be announced shortly.
One of the primary goals of the Society is to promote pro-am collaborations. The
group has a number of well-qualified amateur researchers (photometry and even
some spectroscopy). Any professional needing help getting data is encouraged to
come and present a paper on his research and solicit the help of the membership.
If you're one of those professionals, please contact me off-line. We already have
some professionals "penciled in" and look to have a great meeting.
An official call for papers will be made just after the first of the year with
the deadline for abstracts to be mid-February (approximately) and final papers
due towards the of April.

Details about the 2006 Symposium will be posted soon.
