where are you located, Ben?

Hello Arne,
I'm doing this at sea level here in San Francisco. But if things go
well I'll be using the camera at at 7,000 ft. I'm dickering with the
Forest Service over one of their mountain peaks. (If any of you live
nearby and want to come along for that ride, you can contact me off
list. This is turning out to be a major effort for one person!)

Remember, cosmic rays come from all directions, so you would have
to totally encase the CCD in order to prevent them. Even common
things like concrete and UBK7 glass give off radiation that is
easily detected by CCD cameras. An interesting email:
http://www.ctio.noao.edu/pipermail/ccd-world/2001/000474.html

Well, that email tells the tale. Thanks. It was wishful thinking to
suppose that a little lead over the top might make a big difference. I
was thinking that it all came in from overhead. If I ever saw a cosmic
ray hit in the plane of the chip, I interpreted is as a satellite.
There is another species of unwelcome critters.

Ben
