What operating system? With XP, Vista and Mac OS X out-of-the-box you
can tell the clock to synch to a time server. If you make sure to
force a synch right before you observe, that should be adequate. NTP
is the way to go to keep your clock in synch all the time, provided
you are always on the Internet, but synching right before observing is
good enough.
Control Panel -> Date and Time -> Internet Time
