RX And, a nice Z Cam star, is the subject of our most
recent Variable Star of the Season (VSOTS) article:
http://www.aavso.org/vstar/vsots/1007.shtml

There are more than one color index; basically, any
combination of filters will create a color index. My
guess is that the one Steve is referring to is (B-V),
and RX And has (B-V) = 0.11, very common for cataclysmic
binaries. They tend to look like A-stars, especially
during outburst. In quiescence, a few are considerably
redder, often due to the presence of the red donor star
but not exclusively.
