I am a graduate student of astronomy from China(Beijing) and now I am
in the process of choosing my research topic. I love theoretical
physics actually, especially particle physics like Higgs, standard
model or string theory. However, since my tutor works in the field of
observational astronomy, it is difficult for me to work on a project
totally related to my interest. Now I am looking for something I can
work on that is both about observational astronomy and particle physics.

The telescopes in China are not very good. I may probably be using a
85cm Schmidt telescope which can only does photometry. I might also
have a chance to use a 2.16m telescope(which is so far the best in
China) which can do spectroscopy.

Do you have any idea about the research field I can work on? If I can
combine particle physics and photometry that would be great. If not, I
will leave particle physics aside for a moment and pick it up for my
doctorate study.

Those field I know I can work on is the photometry of variable star
and binary stars. I just want to know more topics related to photometry.
