[Aavso-photometry] Understanding Variable Stars

I second Jeff's recommendation of Petit's book. It's
somewhat out of date now, but the essentials are the
same, and it is a "good read".
"Light Curves of Variable Stars", by Sterken and Jaschek,
was very helpful to me because it has a light curves
for almost all of the various types of variable stars.
Not all variable stars can be easily pigeon-holed into
one specific class, and the book gives the flavor of the
sometimes confusing classification problem. Recommend
reading it after Petit, or some other more basic book,
first, though.
