To better serve our membership and observers, we are moving to a quarterly
electronic newsletter. This enhanced newsletter will merge the old newsletter
with Eyepiece Views, add columns regarding CCD and PEP observing, include more
feature articles as well as reports and previews of AAVSO meetings, news on
variable star events, observing campaign updates and announcements, observer
profiles, and more.
The newsletter will also be on a strict schedule. The first issue will be
published on August 1, with subsequent issues near October 1, January 1, April 1
and July 1. There will be deadlines for material about two weeks earlier than
the publication date. It will be electronic only, available through Blue and
Gold in pdf format, with full color photos, graphics, and clickable links. For
those of you who do not have good web access, we can still provide a hardcopy at
cost without all of the extra electronic features.
Gamze Menali will remain as editor for the "Eyepiece Views" segment.
We are actively seeking two volunteer editors to manage the "CCD Views" and
"PEP News" sections of the newsletter. These editors will be responsible for
commissioning and selecting appropriate articles from AAVSO members, observers,
as well as other amateurs and professionals. The articles should aim to support
our observers' observing programs with lists of new targets, new observing
program ideas, and other helpful and interesting information. The editors are
also expected to see that articles are turned in to HQ by the specified
submission deadlines. Since nearly all of the communication involved is
accomplished via email, these editors can be located anywhere in the world.
There are also other opportunities available to contribute. If you are
interested, please contact Travis Searle at Headquarters at travis at aavso.org
for more information.
I hope you will like the new look! We'll announce when the newsletter is
available on the discussion group, as well as highlighting it on the Web homepage.
