[Aavso-photometry] Summer project

A little while back there was a thread about a suitable project for (I
believe) high school youth? I saw a message from Arne requesting more
details on equipment, etc but never saw any final recommendations - did
it go off list or did I just miss it?

I, too, would like to put together a project wherein I could invite high
school students to watch, learn and participate in real science during
the upcoming summer. I'm thinking to study an open cluster or two to
search for, find, identify and characterize variables - short period and
long(er) period. Of course, if someone has a better idea, I'm all ears.

I have available an 80-cm, F/4.5 reflector, STL-1001 camera with
Paracorr (1.37 arcsec/px, 23.5x23.5 arcmin fov), C, B, V and Ic filters
and ample computer support. Also a 25-cm SCT, ST-7 camera with Optec
0.33 focal reducer (1.97 arcsec/px, 16.7x25 arcmin fov), C, V and Ic
filters, RoboFocus. Both scopes can be scripted.

I'm at 38.5 deg N, have fair horizons, moderate light pollution, often
lousy weather (as today - winds gusting to 50 mph).

Suggestions/comments welcome.
