I said nothing about perception being the right way to do science. What
I said was that the threads on some groups, AAVSO being singled out more 
often than others, so confused or confounded the readers that they believed 
that doing science was too hard and so they never bother to try. Whether or not
you or I agree that the discussions are too detailed, _that is the 
perception among those people_ and so _their_ reality. That is not a good 
thing because it means _no_ science is getting done by them.
