Some questions have come up regarding abstracts and presentations.
Just to be clear, when submitting an abstract for the upcoming
SAS/AAVSO meeting, you are, unless you say otherwise, really
proposing to submit a paper for the SAS/AAVSO proceedings. You
can submit an abstract for a poster presentation.
The oral presentations are summaries of, or supplemental to, the
material in papers (oral presentations are not given for posters).
Since the printed material being distributed will be the abstracts
only, the abstracts should be more than a few lines of general
description of the topic. Instead, include some basic information
about your topic and include some results, if appropriate. A general
guideline is 200-300 words with a 400 word maximum.
This does not include the header information with the author(s) name,
address, organization, and email addresses.
Papers can be submitted as MS Word (2003 preferred) or Open Office
documents. A Word template is available on the SAS web site for,
if nothing else, a general guide on how to construct the paper.
We prefer is that graphics _not_ be embedded in the document.
Supply those separately and indicate in the margins where the
individual graphics are to be placed. IOW, we will worry about
final layout.
PDF proofs will be returned for papers submitted on/before April 25.
Proofs may not be available for papers submitted between April 26 and
the deadline of May 3. It depends on how many people push the deadline.
We can include posters in the proceedings as a single image, PowerPoint
slide printed to PDF, or a set of pages that break out the poster into
sections.
Proceedings from previous years are available on the ADS as individual
articles or in complete form on our web site
http://www.SocAstroSci.org
Reviewing these may help you develop your abstract and paper.
Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the
SAS program committee at

Thanks!
