[Aavso-photometry] PT using a Mac and Parallels

Hi Gary

I used the USB to Serial Converter that OpTec sells with the TFC and it
worked right out of the box. In fact, of all the stuff I have done in
the last year, the TFC-S was the easiest. Just connected it up, and hit
auto focus from MaxIm and the dog gone thing worked. Wish everything
worked that way. I believe that the converter that OpTec sells has the
FTDI chip set.

In general, as I remember Keyspan or FTDI converters or converters using
FTDI chip sets tend to work well. The ASCOM list has a USB to Serial
Converter data base at
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ASCOM-Talk/database?method=reportRows&tbl=1

Gives the experiences of members with different converters.

Not all brands and chip types work.? There is also an issue with the type of 4 port extenders.? I have not completely worked thru this one yet.
