September 22, 2011: As detailed in AAVSO Alert Notice 448 , Dr. Paula Szkody has requested monitoring of the WZ Sge-type cataclysmic variable V455 And through October 10. Observations tonight - September 22/23, tomorrow, and Saturday are crucial.
To quote Dr. Szkody from the Alert Notice: "The primary purpose of the monitoring is to know whether V455 And is in quiescence; if it is in outburst it will be too bright for the HST instrumentation. The decision whether to go forward with the HST observations will be made the evening of Friday, September 23/24, 2011, so the nights of September 22/23, 23/24, and 24/25 are the most critical for observations to be reported. Positive visual or V observations are preferred if at all possible, but fainter-than observations below V=14 are useful (<14.0 or fainter). Therefore, nightly observations are sufficient for now; 2-3 observations per night are requested during the nights of September 22/23 through 26/27, after which nightly observations may be resumed."
V455 And is currently at minimum, at magnitude V = 16.0. Sincere thanks to the many observers who have been providing excellent coverage of V455 And to date for this campaign!

Charts for V455 And (AUID 000-BDC-667) may be created using the Variable Star Plotter (VSP) .
Please report your observations of V455 AND to the AAVSO using WebObs as soon as possible after making them.
Many thanks for your essential contributions!
