Dr. John Percy has been a longtime friend of the AAVSO. He is a mentor to the PEP program [1], LPV section [2], has been a councilor and AAVSO President, and was a co-author of Hands-On Astrophysics [3]. He has used AAVSO data extensively in his research for over 30 years. John is a stalwart at our Annual Meetings where he routinely brings students who are doing work with your data [4]. Congratulations, John!
The official announcement is here. [5]
FYI, the full name of the award is the Qilak Award for Astronomy Outreach and Communication; CASCA stands for the Canadian Astronomical Society/Société Canadienne d'Astronomie (the official organization of Canadian astronomical and astrophysical research).
