(March 8, 2007)
A variable star has been discoved in TrA, according to the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams (CBET No. 867, Daniel W. E. Green, ed.): "C. Jacques, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, reports that C. Colesanti, E. Pimentel, T. Napoleao, and he have found a previously unknown variable star on CCD images obtained in the course of the Brazilian Supernovae Survey (cf. IAUC 8482). The new object is located at R.A. = 16h20m50s.18, Decl. = -60d23'39".5 (equinox 2000.0). "Available red magnitudes from their archival images: 2005 Apr. 6.34 UT, 17.2; 17.240, 15.8; May 4.246, 16.1; June 10.115, 15.9; 25.067, 16.8; July 4.144, 17.4; 23.002, 15.8; Aug. 4.021, 16.1; 15.032, 15.8; 2006 Apr. 28.238, 15.9; May 19.151, 17.2; June 28.120, 15.9; July 11.072, 15.8; 21.026, 15.9; Aug. 25.017, 16.4; 2007 Feb. 24.24, 15.7 (discovery); Mar. 3.172, 15.8." The range in red from these images is 15.032 - 17.4. No visual, V, or B magnitudes are available at this time. CCD observations in V (or with other filters) should be made with a cadence such that each observation has at least S/N=50. Please report observations to the AAVSO as 1612-60 VAR TRA 07, and please be sure to indicate comparison stars used. Thank you and good observing! This special notice was compiled by: Elizabeth O.
