February 14, 2008
The infrequently outbursting WZ Sge-type dwarf nova HV Vir is currently in outburst. HV Vir was detected in outburst by Rod Stubbings (Tetoora Road, Victoria, Australia) at a visual magnitude of 11.5 on 2008 Feb 14.601 (JD 2454511.101; vsnet-alert 9912), and was confirmed by Akira Arai et al (KANATA team; vsnet-alert 9913) at V = 12.4 on 2008 Feb 14.6389 (JD 2454511.1389). The most recent observations of HV Vir in the AAVSO International Database indicate the star was fainter than m(vis)=14.8 on 2008 Feb 10.147 (JD 2454506.647; Gary Poyner, Birmingham, England, UK). Visual and instrumental observations of this rare outburster are requested, including instrumental time-series photometry. HV Vir is located at RA: 13 21 3.10 , Dec: +01 53 30.0 (J2000).
